Music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs is set to stand trial next week in Manhattan on serious federal charges, including racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking, and prostitution. The 55-year-old has been in custody since his arrest in September 2024. Prosecutors allege that Combs operated a criminal enterprise through his business ventures, involving coercion, forced labor, and physical abuse dating back to 2004.
Central to the prosecution’s case are allegations that Combs organized and participated in drug-fueled sexual gatherings—referred to as “freak-offs”—involving male and female prostitutes, drugs, alcohol, and possible coercion. Disturbing surveillance footage from 2016 and purported secret video recordings of these events may serve as critical evidence. Prosecutors allege Combs orchestrated these events with help from his staff and used recorded footage for control and gratification.
The trial is expected to last eight weeks and will not be televised. A unanimous verdict is required for conviction. If found guilty, Combs faces the possibility of life imprisonment. Additionally, over 30 civil sexual assault lawsuits have been filed against him since 2023.
